FIRE SAFETY

Thinking about a fire in one of your apartments is frightening. Not preparing for the possibility of a fire can be deadly.

As responsible building owners and/or managers, we can take steps to educate our tenants about:

      · How to prevent fires
      · How to test the smoke detectors and take care of them
      · Location and use of the fire extinguishers, and
      · In the event of fire, how to get out alive.

Toward this end, MAOMA has prepared a fire safety pamphlet that includes a fire emergency notice.  John C. Dean, the State Fire Marshal, reviewed this pamphlet. His suggested changes are included.  You may access the pamphlet by clicking on the button at the bottom of this page. MAOMA gives all members permission to make copies of the fire safety pamphlet and to give a copy to each tenant.

FIRE SAFETY PAMPHLET

There are blank areas in the section of the pamphlet entitled “Fire Safety Plan Specific To Your Building”. This is where you should write in information about your building and the tenant’s apartment.

FIRE NOTICE FOR DOORS

The fire notice “ACTIONS YOU SHOULD TAKE IF THERE IS A FIRE IN THE BUILDING” is part of the pamphlet.  This notice instructs residents regarding what actions they should take in the event of a fire.  We suggest that you make copies of this notice and attach it to the inside of apartment doors that lead to a building exit. Post it between 4 to 5 1/2 feet from the floor so that everyone inside the apartment can read it.  (You or your tenant may mount it with two-sided adhesive tape.)

The pamphlet and notice show tenants that you care about their safety.
